Why men are the most complicated human beings.

Dear men, I have this little question for you: why does everything have to be so complicated?

We always hear that females are ever complicated, have too many emotions and never just say what they want. Meanwhile, men tell us they don’t want a relationship but an hour later they text you “I wish you were here baby”. They say “I don’t want to be commiting to someone right now” but throw a bitchfit whenever you decide to meet another guy.

They say: women never tell you what they actually think. But you know, that is pretty obvious why. How would you feel if everytime you express your emotions, someone would tell you that you are over emotional. A crybaby. And the moment you tell someone what you think, you are an overthinker and you need to calm down. Every time you express romantic feelings, you get the answer; “Hey, you are really great and all but I am not looking for a relationship”. You really expect us to keep expressing all our feelings if you make us feel like they are unwanted? 

Every single one of my girlfriends have always had these struggles. I feel like women aren’t that complicated at all. We think everything through to the tiniest bit. We talk to our friends about our relationships and try to decide what we actually want. Guys, what are you so afraid of?

The confusing thing about men is the fact that they can give you ALL the hints, all the little messages or even just straight up say: “You are so cute” “I like you” “I like having you in my arms”. They brush your hair, they kiss your forehead, they mess up the pillows on your bed. And after, they decide to tell you: Yeah u make me laugh a little, but ya know I ain’t looking for commitment. AND THATS IT. 

Why can’t there be simple love. Just the pure simple love. The one where you get a crush, date a little, get into a relationship and then are just happy being around eachother. No complications, no trustissues, no friends with benefits, no throwing away your emotions.

Recently I’ve started to notice that I have my own pattern in love. I realised that because of the uncertainty of a guys emotions, I’ve started to build a ‘I don’t care’ wall. Or at least I am trying to. I hate the feeling of having more feelings for someone than they have for me. So, I try and stay emotionally uninvolved. But it is haaaard tho. One day I find myself listening to Lizzo and telling myself I don’t need no man. And the other day two hours have passed because I was fantasizing about this guy and how he would open up to me.

But maybe, maybe love just is not meant to be simple. Maybe the struggle is what makes the love more passionate, more true, more worth it. Lets just fucking hope so.

Lets be honest. The single life these days ain’t easy.

The guys you meet are either TOTALLY into relationships and are ready to settle down after one date, or don’t want anything at all. Where are the lads who see you walking on the streets and instead of whistling and calling “WHAT THAT MOUTH DO” ask for your name and if they could have a drink with you.

Every guy I’ve dated had something weird. I call it my little file of freaks. One guy can’t stop fighting with you but breaks at the thought of losing you. One guy calls it off after one week because you haven’t had sex with him yet. The next one treats you like a girlfriend but says he just wants to be friends and then there is always the guy who is completely in love with you but you can’t walk across the room without slipping over all the drool he has left. 

And yet, every single one has the audacity to tell you: “Babe I am different I swear. I am not like those other guys. I am one of a kind.” I believe that line is so old it’s still written in a cave somewhere. 

My friends told me that they always love my crazy dating stories, so I thought why not have a good laugh at the jokes of the universe together. And for the guys I’ve dated that may read this: hi, live with it.

What REALLY happened last year…

I am opening up and telling you what was really going on last year. For me, a truly terrifying experience.

Last year, something happened. It was a really scary experience and I am finally ready to share all of it.

About a year ago, I believe it was begin March. I was sitting in my room, working on my laptop. When suddenly I felt like I was under water. For a minute I could not hear. But me being me, I brushed it off for ‘my head just being weird again’. However, after a few minutes I began to see something resembling a lightningbold. It stayed in my left eyes vision and it was really colorful and sparkly. I was not hallucinating as everything else was fine. Until the headaches started. A throbbing headace in the back of my right brain.

I went downstairs to tell my mother, just so someone in the house knew I wasn’t feeling well. She told me to lie down for a minute, so that’s what I did. I laid down in a dark room and tried to sleep a bit. After about 15 minutes my mother walked into my room. “Nicky, it didn’t feel right so I called the doctor, just to be sure. We can go right now.” The doctors office is about a 10 minute walk from our house so we went right away. 

When we arrived at the doctorsoffice we had to wait in the waitingroom for a bit. That’s when everything went south. While I was waiting I noticed that my coat was feeling really weird on my left arm. I decided to try and pinch my left hand and I noticed it was numb. This is when I started panicking. I have my first aid license, so I know that when bodyparts start to go numb, it’s a sign of a stroke. I started to cry and hyperventilate. We rushed to the doctor and she checked me out. While she was doing a check-up, more of my left bodyparts started to go numb. My leg, my eye, my tongue. Believe me, it was VERY strange. That is when the doctor called the ambulance. 

I tried to stay calm. When the ambulance came, I wanted to be strong. It was my first ambulance trip EVER (and I hope my last too). All I could think was “Nicky shut up, if people can survive bombs, I can fucking survive this shit.” After what felt like HOURS we arrived at the hospital. There the neurologist checked me out. And luckily, it was not a stroke. It turned out I had a VERY intens migraine attack. Mind you, I have never had a migraine attack in my life ever before. 

So, seemingly, this is where the story ends. But it sadly did not. 

They told me it could take up to a week to recover from the intens day and the migraine. So, I slept a LOT. But I noticed that after a week, I was not recovering. I kept feeling drained and immensly tired. This frustrated me to the max. I wanted to go back to work and do my thing. After a month, I tried to go back to work. Which resulted in me crying behind the bar because I was about to pass out. I felt like mentally, I was broken. And I didn’t know why. 

After that incident I wen’t back to the doctor again, and to the hospital. They all told me, there was physically nothing wrong with my brain. So, I went to the psychologist. Back in 2012 I had a very traumatic incident at the hospital during a surgery, which resulted in me having controlling issues. I think that the combination of those controlling issues and the complete loss of control over the left side of my body, messed me up a bit. 

All together it took about seven months for me to recover. Something that made the progress really hard for me was that a lot of people did not understand. They told me to stop whining and get myself together. They started diagnosing me and telling me what to do. But I do not blame them. It’s okay that they don’t understand. Because a mental illness is not something you can see. When someone’s leg is broken, everyone sees that they are not okay. A mental illness is like an invisible broken legg. You’re not okay too, people just don’t see it. 

I feel like there is so much more to tell. But I feel like this is already a pretty long blogpost. There will be a part two for sure.

My life is UPSIDE DOWN

Finally being completely honest.

My life is not so pretty anymore, and I love it. I have noticed that over the past years I have been trying to get everything together. Be as aestheticly beautiful as can be, but that did NOT make me happy. Everywhere you find these ‘influencers’ who make you feel like crap, like you need to have everything together. But that is just not life.

Over the last few months I moved out of my parents house. I moved into a building with my best friend. We party a lot. My room is often a mess and focussing on school is hard. During these corona times I find myself struggling to keep up with work and school and I often find myself falling behind. 

I was dating someone, a really good guy. But I decided to break it off because I noticed that we didn’t really fit together. That hurt, it hurt really fucking bad. But it’s okay. It’s okay to hurt and it’s okay to not be okay. Love isn’t always going to work out. And I believe that every person you meet, leaves something for you to learn. Something that will help you grow. And for me that was the choice of going against my feelings and following my thoughts and knowledge. This is something people don’t talk about. Everyone tells you to follow your feelings, but no one ever tells you to stop and think about wtf you’re doing. I stopped, I thought and I figured out that we just didn’t understand eachother on a deeper level. And that I do want someone to understand me on that level. By taking my time to think, I could break things off before got hurt even more.

My routines are all over the place. Because I live with friends, every night is hang-out night. Which means I am definitely not waking up at 5am to drink lemon water and go for a run during the sunrise. NO. 

I am so much happier now that I’ve been letting go of all that toxic control. I finally feel free and happy to live my life. Life is messy and I have to embrace that happiness.

Now, understand me well. I do not mean that I want to slack on everything and live my life being a fucking mess. But I have learned to embrace the unexpected things in life, embrace that I don’t always feel okay and embrace the fact that it is okay for me to be happy right now in the moment instead of always wanting, working and waiting for better things. I am also not complaining here. I am just telling the honest truth about my life, because I am sick of living a lie. I want everyone who reads this to know the real me. The real me who wears dirty oversized T-shirts, the real me who loves putting her feelings into poetry, the real me who rips her tights every. single. day. The real me who had red wine stains all over her curtains and who can’t live without coffee and powernaps. 

This is the real me. Nice to meet you.

ways to SIMPLIFY your LIFE

largeLife can be overwhelming, who doesn’t know. Sometimes it can already be overwhelming to come home into a space filled with clutter and loud colors. I found that when I started to simplify my life and my environment, I found a certain sence of calm. These days everyone wants more, everyone wants to be louder and everyone wants to tell you that you have to do more and more and more. But not anymore.

Say NO to things that don’t please you

This is the first thing and one of the most important. You have probably heard this one a thousand times, but hear me out. If someone asks you to do something, that you really don’t want to do. Then say no. Now, don’t get me wrong, I am encouraging you to be and stay polite. But your own happiness comes first.

These days, all the influencers, your family, your friends, everybody, tries to tell you what to do. “Wake up early, wake up earlier, wake up earliest.” “Read a book, read two books, read ten books.” “Eat healthy, eat vegeterian, eat vegan.” NO. Find whatever suits YOU. Find what makes you happy and do exactly that. Your life is about finding YOUR happiness and YOUR purpose. Find your own habits and your own sparks of joy.

Fill your life with joy

Now, simplicity is often mistaken for throwing everything out. Instead, look at is as only keeping what serves you. Only filling your life with little pieces of joy. Here are a few excersizes I did:

  • Take everything of your surfaces in a room and lay everything in the 900808db33ccfd235fb0adc703a6bb9cmiddle of the room. Now sit down and one by one grab something from the middle of the room and think about wether or not it truely makes you happy. If it does, keep it. If it doesn’t, throw it out.
  • Quality over Quantity. Back in the days I loved to shop shop shop, the more the better. But lately I have found that I enjoy long lasting, high quality pieces way better.
  • Stop constantly trying to figure out who you are.

Find what calms you down

For me, it is white and cleanliness. Whenever my surroundings are minimal and clean, my mind is so too. Find what makes you feal calm and find a way to surround yourself with exactly that.

Bye Bye to the toxic

Take a little moment to write down what makes you feel held back. Sometimes I get just get this stressed and overwhelmed feeling. Whenever I get that feeling, I take a moment and write down all the things that make me feel that way. It can be a person, a task, a situation, anything. Then I write down what I can do about it, and i do that, IMMEDIATELY.

Sometimes it can be hard to eliminate the toxic. Especially if it is a friend or family member. But remember, you are the only one who carries the complete responsibility over your situation.

Do one thing at a time

Watching netflix while summarizing? Listening to a podcast while trying to finish that assignment? It is so easy to try and multitask during boring tasks. But let me tell you. Whenever you focus on one thing at a time, you will be way more focussed, get your boring task done faster and your mind will be clearer and less stressed. Taking your time to do one thing at a time may feel less productive at the time, but you’ll get way more done.

Take some time to do soulsearching

Do something that get’s you in a flow where you can simply be. This way it is easier to find out what makes you truely happy and find your peace throughout life. For me it really wors to take some time to write, read or meditate. Dancing and writing also brings me in a good flow. Feel free to experiment and look for different kinds of excersizes and flows

Know that you look absolutely amazing, whatever you wear. You don’t have to wear clothes that are in style to fit in. Wear what makes YOU feel good and confident. Less is more, and more is more. It is up to you.

  • 1/2 lemon squeezed

  • 1 tsp. ginger powder or fresh shredded ginger
  • 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric
  • dash of black pepper
  • splash of water

How: Squeeze the lemon into a little shotglass. Add the ginger, cayenne pepper and turmeric and give it a good stir. Then add the black pepper and a splash of water. Don’t add too much water or the shot will be hard to take down at once.

Why: The lemon and ginger are really good for detoxing and antioxidating. The lemon is perfect for calming your stomach and the turmeric is also a good detoxer. The ginger is good for relieving nauseau and inflammation. The cayenne pepper boosts your metabolism, helps digestion, lowers your bloodpressure and helps reduce hunger. The turmeric reduces inflammation, is highly antioxidating, improves brainfunction, lowers the risk of heart disease, shows increadible benefits against depression and delays aging.

  • Water
  • 1/2 lemon
  • (ginger, if you like)

How: boil the water and squeeze the lemon into the water. I like to use fresh lemon but you can also use plain lemon juice from the store. I like to just put the juice in but you can also choose to put some slices of lemon into your water. Make sure to get the lemon seeds out beforehand.

Why: I drink this cozy drink EVERY morning. It is a really good detoxifier. It stimulates weightloss and improves your immunesystem. It also benefits skinhealth, promotes dehydration and lifts your mood. 

Greener cleaner

  • Celery
  • Block of ginger (peeled)
  • 1/2 lemon
  • water

How: Put the ingredients all together into a blender and blend until there are no more chunks (make sure to stir around to check if the ginger is fully emerged). Then get a sieve and lay it on top of a jar. Pour the liquid onto the sieve and press a little with a spoon. You can throw the pulp away and enjoy your fresh celery juice!

Why: celery is a very good source of minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. It is packed with vitamins and is very hydrating. It is good for digestion and a good source of fiber. The lemon and ginger makes it extra refreshing and hydrating.

Turmeric cuddle

  • Milk foamer
  • Milk (soy, oat, almond, or whatever you like)
  • Turmeric
  • Honey

How: Foam the milk and add some turmeric and honey. The turmeric makes it taste really fresh and the honey gives it a sweet taste. The warm milk is just the cherry on top. (Btw, you won’t actually taste the milk-taste. I usually HATE drinking milk but this drink is just amazing.”

To sleep or not to sleep: HACKS

how to sleep peacefully every night.

We all know the sleepless nights. You keep tossing and turning and eventually you can see the sun starts to rise again and the birds start to sing. The next day you feel TRASHED and need the whole day to rest and sleep and you won’t be productive. I have dealt with TONS of those nights. Sometimes I would even get into a routine of having these nights regulary. At first, I tried fixing this with sleeping pills and trying to exhaust myself during the day. I would get into bed and feel so frustrated that eventhough I was exhausted, I couldn’t sleep. So, you may wonder, how did I fix this? Let me tell you all of my favorite hacks that I use daily to get a good night sleep.  But first, lets do a little digging into what a good night of sleep actually can do for you.

Sleeping is extremely important for your productivity and overall happiness. Science has proven that bad sleep can have numerous negative effects like weightgain, lack of focus and a weakened immune system. Sleep deprivation is caused by getting les than 7 hours of sleep on a regular basis. Here are some health problems that can come from sleep deprivation:

  • Memory issues
  • Mood changes
  • Poor balance
  • Weakened immunity (that can lead to diabetes and heart disease)
  • Low sex drive
  • High bloodpressure

Disclaimer: these are just hacks that work for ME. I am not telling you that you have to do these NOR am I responsible for your actions. Some people who suffer from sleep deprivation can have a sleep syndrome. A few of those syndromes are: restless leg syndrome, sleep apnea, seizures and movement disorders. If you can’t seem to get enough sleep during the night I reccomend talking to a doctor or specialist.

Now, how do I manage to get a good night of sleep?

I use lavender. TONS of lavender. I find it really relaxing. 

I put a little of some lavenderessential oil into my airdiffuser at night.I also recentlybought a lavender essential oil roller which I roll behind my ears, on my wrists and on my chest. If you want to use lavender oil, make sure to get one that is safe to use on your skin because some can be toxic to use and can cause irritation. I use the “organic lavender sleep therapy aroma ball” by Dr. Organic. I have one on my nightstand and one in my purse.

Meditation or breathing excersizes. When I lay in bed and find my mind wandering around I like to focus on my breath. Since I meditate in the mornings I don’t do a full meditation, but by focussing on my breath I help my mind relax and it helps me get to sleep. If you find it hard to just focus on breathing it can help to count your breaths or quietly say a mantra.

Burn sage. Now this one it a little odd. But in the days where I found myself awake during the night, I had a lot of nightterrors. I don’t know where they came from but I everytime I closed my eyes I would see horrible images of demons and whenever I would fall asleep, every dream would turn into a terror. I was terrified of going back to sleep. I found that burning some sage really cleanses the energy in the room and by trusting it’s work, I found myself falling asleep easier. I also bought an angel crystal (Coelestien) and I found it really worked for me.

Digestion. So, whenenver you read a little about sleeping well, you often read “don’t eat for two hours before bed”. But yah, I can’t. My family often has dinner between 8 and 9, and I am going to bed at 10. But what I found really worked for me is moving a little before bed. Sometimes I walk but often I do a light strech which makes me feel less full and makes me fall asleep easy.

Something you also read often is putting away screens and hour before bed. But late night studies or work can make that difficult. That is why I always wear blue light glasses whenever I am working on my laptop or watching TV. I also like to read for 15 minutes before going to sleep to put my brain into rest-mood.

Create a sleeping schedule. This hack worked for me since the MOMENT I tried it and I have a really hard time giving up my schedule. I like to go to bed at 10pm and wake up at 6am every day. Your body will get used to your chosen time and going to sleep and waking up will be way easier. Ofcourse it is not always possible to maintain your sleeping schedule. For me it is whenever my boyfriend stays over that my schedule gets broken. But if you can maintain the schedule during the week and on the weekends cheat a little, it will still work.

My happy morning routine

my blissful morning routine.

“Flow, not Force”

Routines have always been a big part of my day. I love routines and everything surrounding them. But there was always one main factor that made me resent my routines: force. I used to think that I had to force myself into doing everything that succesful people were doing and my forcing myself to do the things that didn’t bring me joy, I would start the day off in a negative mindset.

But that all changed when I really started to understand the concept of “flow not force”. It is not about making excuses, it is about finding joy in life. So, what I decided to do is to create a new morning routine, containing only things that make me happy and make me feel calm. Let me show you what I created.

Now, right before we dig in to the morning routine I wanted to quickly explain something. I don’t go to work or school so I have a ton of time to have a slow morning routine. I understand that not everybody has that time so every habit I describe from my morning routine will include a tip on how to fit it into a quick schedule. Also, I highly recommend not just plain following my routine if it inspires you, but to be inspired by it and find out if there are habits that I am describing that YOU like and that make YOU feel happy.

I like to wake up really early in the morning because I find that I am way more productive during the day when I had an early start. When I wake up I aways take ONE look at my phone, just to make sure nothing urgent came in at night, before putting it away until I finish my habits. 

The first 45 minutes of my morning is dedicated to cleansing. I love starting my day with a fresh clean slate.  These are my cleansing habits:

  • Water and coffee: to reset my body for a new day I like to start my day off with drinking some water. Your body hasn’t hydrated in over 8 hours so this I necessary! I find that drinking water really wakes me up and makes me feel amazing. I also like to drink a coffee in the morning. It also wakes me up and it, well, cleanses my body and makes me feel ready for a fresh new day. TIP: this one is fairly easy to include in your morning routine because it is simply a drink. But, if you don’t have time in the mornings to drink your coffee, make a homemade icecoffee and put it in your bag the night before. Then you can drink your daily caffeineboost in the car or on the train.
  • Writing: after I made my coffee, the first thingI do is grab my notebook and writeeverything down. I am a very vivid dreamer so I like to write down all my dreams and analyse them for a bit. I also like to focus on how I am feeling thatday andwhat my intentions are for the day. TIP: Writing is one way to clear your mind. If you don’t have time to write in the mornings, then self-talk could be an option to you. Actlike you’re recording a podcast and simply talk oud loud to yourself. You can also record this if you’d like to listen back. This you can do in your car, on your bike or even walking.
  • Yoga: I NEED to strech in the morning. Usually when I wake up I feel a little soar from my workout from the day before and my muscles feel really tight from barely moving for 8 hours. I like to follow my own yogaflow and really feel what my body needs at that moment, but you can also follow a Yoga Youtube-video. My strech-routine changes every day. There are days where I love streching for half an hour and really take my time, but there are also days where my streches are about 5 minutes long. remember: flow, not force. TIP: like I said, your streches can only be 5 minutes. When I have a busy morning I also like to do this when my water is boiling for my tea, when my shower is heathening up or when my coffee is in the making.
  • Meditation: I love how clear my mind feels after a meditation. Now, I am not a patient person so meditating can be a struggle for me. But just 5-10 minutes of a guided meditation makes me feel SO good. I use the app “Calm” and it is rated as one of the best mindfulness apps. I have a subscribtion, but there are also tons of free meditations you can use. TIP: meditation does not just have to be sitting with your eyes closed and breathing. The app ‘Calm’ that I am using also has walking meditations or mindfulness meditations for when you are at work. You can do this on your lunchbreak or whenever you have a second to spare.

After the first part of my morning routine that focusses on cleansing, I start ‘putting in’. I know this sounds really weird but bare with me. The first part of my morning is centered about cleansing my body and my mind, and the second part is all about putting the good information and food in again. These are my ‘putting in’ (lol) habits:

  • Hot lemon water: When I start the second fase of my morning, I like to have a comforting drink with me. I love hot lemon water because it is so easy to make and it kinda feels like it is ‘coating’ my stomach. It is full of antioxidants and it prepares your body for breakfast. It is really good to have some kind of fruit first, before breakfast, to prevent bloating and stomach aching. I also find it really southing todrink something warm while doing my next habit. TIP: now I understand that if you have a busy morning, you certainly do not have time for TWO drinks. So, bring some slices of lemon with you in your lunchbox. If you go to work or school they often have an option for tea in the lunchroom. Put your lemon slices in there instead of tea and you’re good to go.
  • Reading: This is probably my favorite habit. Processed with VSCO with a6 presetI love love love to read in the morning and put positive thoughts and information into my mind. I always love to read a fiction and a non-fiction book at the same time so I don’t ‘get bored’. I read one chapter of each book in the morning and it sets me of to a good start. TIP:another way to fuel your mind with books is listening to audiobooks. I won’t start rambling on about audiobooks as I am certain that you’ve already heard about them. I also really like to listen to podcasts. My favorites are: the health code, kalyn’s coffeetalks, potterless, your own magic and the mustards.
  • Breakfast: I absolutely NEED to eat a good breakfast in the morning. I don’t have one breakfast I eat everyday, but I mainly just listen to my body and what I am craving that day. But, I always love some avocado toast, oatmeal, yoghurt or a fresh smoothie. I love to create a healthy breakfast to fuel me and get me going. I generally never crave things like chocolate or pancakes so it really isn’t that hard for me to start the day healthy. TIP: now, I’ve heard SO many people tell me that they don’t have time to make breakfast in the morning. If intermitted fasting is your thing than you should definitely do that. But if you’re like me and simply can’t go without a good breakfast then I can highly recommend you one simple thing. meal. prep. I KNOW, eyeroll , eyeroll, because you’ve probably heard it everywhere. And I understand that you don’t have the time or energy to spend your free time making meals for the whole week. But this does not have to be hard. The night before, put everything for your smoothie in a bowl. Make some simple overnight oats, or take 15 minutes to bake a simple bananabread that you can take to work every day of the week. 09:00AM 

GYM-TIME: I know, you probably think: “What happened between 07:30AM and 09:00AM?!” but let me explain. After my breakfast I usually put on my workout-clothes, brush my teeth and wash my face. And then I start working on my to-do list. But at 9AM I like to go to the gym. Because I work from home, I have the freedom to make my own schedule and I always go around 9AM because that’s when a lot of people go to work and there are a lot less people at the gym. Because I live in a small village, the gym is very small. It is basically one room with all the equipment in it, so it can very easily become very crowded. I love to workout in the mornings because it gives me the endorfine-boost to go through my day with an extra big smile on my face. Also, if I postpone my workout until the evening, I most likely end up making an excuse and then not going. TIP: working-out can be quite a struggle for some people, which is totally understandable. I have the time to go to the gym and have a 60min+ workout, but if you don’t have that time HIIT work-outs are the perfect solution for you. HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training. HIIT workout are often short (10-20min) and keep your heartrait really high. If having an intens work-out just isn’t your thing, it may be nice to go for a walk on your lunchbreak or take the stairs a little more often. Just simple everyday things to keep moving!

After my work-out I just get ready and get on with my day. Now a little disclaimer: I do not do this every day! This is more or less a guideline for me to follow and something I naturally love doing. But if I wake up and I am super soar and feel like I just need a stretch, THEN I GO AND STRETCH. Remember, it is all about feeling good and being happy. 

So, to wrap this routine up, I highly encourage your to feel your flow and make yourself happy. If you haven’t heard this today: you are valuable by simply being you. You don’t need to achieve high standards or look a certain way to be loved and valuable to this world.

The social war

my thoughts on the ongoing social war.

We made it through the discussion of the physical war. But I am not done, we still have got the social war to open our perspectives to. You have probably already seen it, heard it and probably even felt it a hundred times. The quotes “Be yourself” “Don’t compare yourself to people on social media” “Don’t be jealous, your succes will come in your own time” and eventhough we want to believe them, we’ve all shared an eyeroll or two when we hear yet another motivational speaker talk about it.

And yes, this too is a war. We all try to be better than the rest and we even like the competition, but only as long as we’re in the game. We’ve all felt jealous of that gorgeous Victoria’s Secret model, living in Bali and making money with wearing a coconut bikini. And because of that, we scroll through their pages, hoping to find a photo of her with a pimple, or with tanlines or whatever. And when we finally find that imperfection, we can’t f*king wait to comment it under her photo. How much would the social game change if we unanimously decided to get inspired by other people? If we stoped hoping for that bikinimodel to fail and started hoping for her to make it.

I KNOW, eyeroll, eyeroll, eyeroll. I am not trying to paint a perfect picture here. But how would you feel? If you see that pimple, and eventhough you feel jealous and want to point her imperfection out. If you instead would comment or send her a message about how inspiring you think she is, how you admire her lifestyle and if she maybe could give you some tips?

Because you won’t be focussing on the negative, eventhough your feelings may be negative, your actions are positive and so will you feel. AND if she does give you those tips, you may actually find yourself creating that life you’re dreaming about!

Focussing on the negative and jealousy, can really harm our mental health. You may not notice it right away, but through time you’ll see. I admit, I also tend to downtalk myself whenever I see someone who I FEEL LIKE is better than me. I put “i feel like” in capslock because this is not true. Just because someone has a fitter physique than me, does not mean that they are more worth, are a better person, or are less flawed, than me.

The next thing I wanted to talk about, is not just downtalking yourself TO yourself, but downtalking yourself towards others. This is something I notice all around me. In this day and age we are afraid to “try to hard” or let other people know we care too much. So, when we try something new, we are tempted to say “I am really bad at this” or “I will probably fail hahahaha.” But I actually don’t think it is that funny. You are allowed to feel confident and to trust yourself and your capabilities. Being proud at yourself does not make you a bitch and trying and failing does not make you weak. 

The social war is one everyone sees, meets and knows. But when are we starting to do something about it. Mental health is a serious issue and is just as important as your physical health. So, I hope you’ll think twice next time you start to doubt yourself because of someone elses fake reality.

What we should really be scared about…

my thoughts on the real scares in this world.

It is no news that there are wars and deaths spreading over this world. Every night you watch the news, every time you check your phone, you’ll stumble onto some kind of war. Now, for me there are three kinds of wars:

  1. The physical war. The war between countries and people. The war where people are killed by one another.
  2. The social war. The war between who is better, who can show others the best that they are living the perfect life and who can make other people the worst about themselves.
  3. The individual war. The war you have with yourself on your way to becoming who you really are.

Now I will write about these wars in three separate articles. This article is about the first war, the physical war.

Lets talk about the physical war. People kill people. And why? Because of people. Now, if you would ask ANYONE, literally anyone, what their perfect world would look like. They would all say that they just want to be happy. Because that is all anyone wants. Now ofcourse there are a thousand different definitions of happy. One persons definition of happy is a lot of money and big cars, another persons definition of happy is a puppy or the smell of freshly cut grass. Ofcourse it is different. But we all crave for that feeling of joy, that feeling of fulfillment. But I wonder, why people think that they can find fulfillment in other peoples misery. 

A lot of people will call ‘hurters’ (this is how I call people who kill people) the word mental. Which I do not think is correct. People with mental disorders aren’t ‘hurters’ or ‘killers’, they are just weaker in that moment for the influence of the negativity of this world. I think that most of the ‘hurters’ are completely sane people, with just a different perspective on life. Now, do not think that I am defending them because I completely disagree with hurting people in any shape or form. But I am wondering about the reasoning behind it. Because we can protect and protect and protect the people who may get hurt, but if we never look behind the curtain to find the reason behind the hurting, than how will we ever prevent? But this is a topic for a whole other article.

And, lets not forget that even if we wouldn’t kill our own, a ton of people would still die. It is like a football-team scoring in their own goal. We are killing our own team.

Humanity has so much to fight for and fight against, and still we are decreasing our chances. Because that one person that was killed 2 seconds ago, could’ve been the one person to find out how we could live on another planet or how the universe exists.

One major life killer, actually the most dangerous animal of all, is an animal so small you’d laugh at it. But if the animal is in your room at night, it will stop you from falling asleep. You would be shaking from frustration and keep keep keep looking for it. And when you finally get the chance to catch a glimpse, you’ll know how small the chances are that you’ll catch it.

It is the mosquito.

The mosquito kills more people than people do. It also kills more people than sharks do in a century. Great leaders have suffered and died of malaria and yellow fever. And even I wouldn’t be writing this here and now, if my mother made the decision to get on a plain instead of staying in the hospital. My dad also suffered from malaria 12 times, and because of good medicine and healthcare he survived. Every two minutes a child dies from the bite of a mosquito, and I am not the only one who thinks this is too much.

This disease kills millions of people a year and instead of fighting the mosquito with all we have, we help it kill humanity. One thing you may not know, is that malaria is a disease that can be prevented. A disease that we as humans can erase from this world. So, this is why I am creating Bloody Good. We can stand tall and fight everything the world has against us, as long as we stand together.

Bloody Good is really starting now, so only a little more until we can finally launch. Stay tuned!
